Introducing Meghange…
Over the last eight months, I have got to know Meghan Markle’s style pretty well. As a ‘fashion expert’ I have been interviewed both by the UK Press and publications abroad all about Meghan’s fashion choices, which I love by the way!
The night Meghan donned a black Alexander McQueen tuxedo suit for an event with Prince Harry at The Endeavour Awards , I thought that it was an edgy choice for a Princess in waiting, with the world's eyes upon her. But more importantly that I had seen this look somewhere before...
Now, as a Stylist part of my job is to recognise a trend and put fashion threads together, so I did some research and it became clear as day to me - Meghan’s style muse is most definitely Angelina Jolie. The similarities are endless. The outfit choices dating way back in Meghan’s wardrobe are practicaly doppelgängers of Angelina’s. There can be no mistaking that both ladies have a penchant for wearing black to public events, both favour killer black and sometimes, nude high heels protruding from their slender calves and skinny ankles. Their coats are even the same, take for example, the one below that Meghan chose to wear for her official engagement announcement to Prince Harry in Kensington Gardens. We already saw that look in 2011 on Angelina.
It doesn’t stop with Meghan’s fashion - the natural make up, the low slung ‘thrown up’ ponytail, the natural flowing hair that doesn’t look done! All Angelina. Even the way they tie their winter scarves is the same for goodness sake!
Now, its not hugely unusual for any woman to want to emulate Angelina, she is one of the worlds sex symbols voted as the most beautiful woman in the world time over time. Often when I ask my clients whose style they like in the public eye, Angelina is often up there with the best of them but I suspect its more than this with Meghan. I think its what Angelina represents as a woman that Meghan is wanting to emulate. Angelina is taken seriously as an actress, is a humanitarian and is exceedingly well respected. Her clothes, unlike most Hollywood royalty don’t do the talking on the red carpet, Angelina wears them and she takes centre stage in a subtle but very powerful way. Angelina oozes confidence and sexuality but is taken seriously at the same time.
Well done Meghan what a girl crush to have and I look forward to seeing more of Meghange in the months to come as the world watches your style evolve.
